Podcast: Boston Public Radio Highlights Stanford Study on Infertility
MIT economist Jon Gruber tells Boston Public Radio that a new fertility study by SHP's Maria Polyakova and Stanford colleagues gives the first "solid evidence" regarding the impact that infertility can have on families.
MIT economist Jonathan Gruber joins Boston Public Radio to talk about the unequal access to fertility treatments in the United States, and how better insurance coverage could help millions of families and curb the dropping birth rate in this country. He discusses a new study by SHP’s Maria Polyakova and colleagues, in which they find persistent infertility takes a large toll on mental health and raises the likelihood of divorce.
Gruber—at minute 18:05 of this podcast—highlights how the study finds that women who have access to IVF and use the medical procedure to have children receive dramatic benefits to their mental health and family stability.
“This is the first real solid evidence to show that this isn’t just anecdote, but real,” Gruber says.
